If using braided mainline you must use a monofilament line with a reduced poundage  Lures are to be a maximum of 75mm (3”) long.  No trebles, or modified trebles allowed.  No casting further than the length of the rod. (Maximum of 20 feet (6 metres) out).  Weights must be able to break free if snagged (special drop shot weights are available).  Spoons and spinners are not allowed (neither are plugs).  Lead lines are to be of a lower breaking strain than the main line (unless very light tackle is used, when split shot will be allowed as a bottom weight if using continuous ‘through’ line).  Rods and reels must be suitable for the job, a light spinning set up is ideal.  Bailiffs and committee members have the right to stop any drop shot angling they consider is breaching any of the above rules.  These rules are neither finite nor exhaustive and are subject to change at the committee’s discretion.

23) Pike Fishing rules:  The opening of the lakes for pike fishing to be confirmed as either the 1st November (as per rules) OR when water temp reduces to 12 degrees (as per last few seasons).  No pike matches to be arranged before Nov 14th and after Feb 14th.  Junior anglers and guests must be accompanied AT ALL TIMES by an adult member who must be an experienced predator angler.  Live bait and freshly killed dead baits must not be brought onto the fishery - anyone found bringing live bait onto the fishery will be disciplined for illegal fish movements and banned for life. In an extreme situation you will need a suitable “pike tube” and may be used for a max of 30 mins. This will only be be used for fish recovery, to gain help with an unhooking issue and/or photography purposes only.  You must be in possession of suitable pike tackle, i.e. carp or pike rods - the use of sea tackle / feeder rods etc is not permitted.  You must have the correct unhooking equipment – compulsory items are, a large landing net (minimum 42” triangular / 30” round) and large unhooking crib/ cradle (minimum 40” or larger preferably with a thick bottom and sides). Long handled forceps / pliers and wire cutters (robust enough to chop hooks) for unhooking - min 9 inches. Pike gags are banned and not to be used.  Main line restrictions - Mono Lines must be a minimum of 15lb BS - Braided lines min 50lb for bait fishing.  You must use a recognized wire trace system min of 12 inches long and 26lb BS.  Max size of Treble hooks for bait fishing is size 4. Max distance between hooks on a two hook wire trace is 4 inches. No more than two hooks can be used on any wire trace when bait fishing.  When incorporating a float in your set up an up trace must be used. The up trace must be at least 4 inches longer than the main hook trace. Min 16 inches. Min BS 26lbs. (guide note - Prefer plastic coated wire or similar to protect the fish.)  No baited rods to be left unattended under any circumstances.

24) The following for Pike fishing are strongly recommended practices for the Warren fishery.  The fishery operates with an immediate strike policy to pike fishing - delay in striking will only result in a deep hooked fish. Help protecting our stock by striking early and encouraging others to do the same.  If a fish is deep hooked and you are unable to extract the hooks efficiently - secure the fish in the water in a pike tube or landing net and seek the help of a bailiff or a fellow angler - do not be too shy to ask. The fish’s health is paramount.  Never weigh or lift a fish by the gills, use a net, zipped up mat or weigh sling.  When moving fish to and from the water, use a landing net, sling or zipped unhooking mat at all times; never carry the fish unsupported even for short distances  When photographing fish, support the fish over a large unhooking mat / crib/ cradle, kneel and never stand up with the fish.  When returning fish after capture, please support the fish in the water giving it plenty of time to recover before releasing.  Suitable bite indication methods must be used. Floats – back bite indicator - electronic bite indication.  No fixed leads. A suitable lead detachment link / weak link / lead clip must be used. The use of drilled bullets between swivels on an up trace is deemed to be a fixed lead.  Up traces should be suitable for the purpose. Plastic coated or thick wire is required to prevent cutting into a fish should it roll in the net etc.  Release all fish ASAP and unhook in the water if at all possible. Think about whether you really need to handle the fish or actually need a photograph of all fish. Time out of the water is damaging so keep it to a minimum where ever possible.
